Youth Performance Prize 2020

Master the Music invites young piano and violin students to audition for a chance to perform with professional chamber group, Melange Musical!

Performance Date: Thursday, March 12, 2020

Application Deadline: Monday, February 24, 2020

Event Purpose

To give selected younger students (Grades 1-6) a rare and exciting opportunity to perform with professional musicians in an intimate chamber concert setting.

Eligibility

Open to 1st -6th Graders in both Piano and Violin who live in the greater DFW metroplex.

Prize

Up to 6 winners will be selected (3 piano and 3 violin) to perform in a chamber music setting with the professional chamber group Mélange Musical – based in Grapevine, Texas.

Winning pieces will be arranged for solo instrument and chamber ensemble by Dr. Michael Schneider.

Winner’s must be able to perform at the winner’s concert, which will be held at the Lancaster Theatre on historic Main Street in downtown Grapevine, TX on Thursday, March 12th, 2020 at 7:00pm.

It is at the judges’ discretion to award or not award some or all of the 6 performance prizes.

Repertoire Requirements

The piece you submit in your application will be the same piece that will be arranged for chamber performance on Thursday, March 12. So choose your best!

  • Piano – Any piece for solo piano, primo part of a piano duet or duo work, or one movement of a youth piano concerto with second piano accompaniment.
  • Violin – Any piece for violin with piano accompaniment.

Application Process

  • Deadline: Midnight on Monday, February 24th, 2020
  • Fill out the below form, including a URL link of a recent performance.
  • The form requires a video to be submitted. Videos should be available via a URL, e.g. YouTube, Google photos link, etc. Please ensure that permissions are set correctly for anyone with the link to be able to view.
    • Video must be a single camera with clear view of the performer(s).
    • Video must be unedited and be a complete take/performance of the application piece.
    • Memorization is not required for either the video submission or the winner’s concert.
  • Once submitted, you continue to the next page where you will be directed to pay the $10 application fee via Square.
  • Applicant Notification: Applicants will be notified no later than Sunday, March 1st, 2020 whether they are selected. Those not selected will receive notification and a short critique of their performance.
